How much tax do you pay on motorhomes in Belgium?

That there are many taxes in Belgium is no secret. Fortunately, motorhomes are somewhat of an exception. Both Flanders and Wallonia offer relatively favorable rates when it comes to road tax on motorhomes. However, the tax rates and calculation methods differ between Flanders and Wallonia.

Flanders

1. Annual road tax:

In Flanders, the annual road tax for motorhomes is calculated based on the Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM).

The rates for the annual road tax are as follows:

MTM Bedrag
0 - 1500 kg 92,40 euro
1500 - 3500 kg 132,00 euro
3501 - 7999 kg 145,20 euro
8000 - 10999 kg 184,80 euro
11000 kg and higher 290,40 euro

For motorhomes that can be driven with a category B driving license (up to 3.5 tons), the tax amounts to €132.00. If you purchase a motorhome that requires a C1 license (up to 7,500 kg), the amount is €145.20.

Is the vehicle leased? Leasing companies pay the rate for light commercial vehicles, provided the motorhome does not exceed 3.5 tons.

2. Registration tax

The biggest advantage in Flanders is related to the registration tax. This tax does not have to be paid in Flanders.

Wallonia

1. Annual road tax

The annual road tax is determined by the engine displacement. Since this varies for each motorhome we’ve provided two realistic examples.

  • For a motorhome with an engine displacement of 1995 cc, the tax amounts to €211.36.
  • If your motorhome has an engine size of 2197 cc, you will pay €259.88.

2. Registration tax

On May 28, 2025, the Walloon Parliament officially approved the reform of the registration tax. The new regulations will take effect on July 1, 2025.

Starting from that date, the tax will be based on several factors: engine power, age of the motorhome, CO₂ emissions, maximum authorized mass (MTM), and fuel type. This new calculation method clearly results in a more favorable tax regime.

Here is an example:

Example of a new motorhome – 2184 cc – 103 kw – 249 CP²
  Before July 1, 2025 From July 1, 2025
Registration tax €867,00 €303,00
Eco-Malus €2000,00 €700,00
Total €2867,00 €1003,00
